Air Purification Systems added to our Changing Rooms

In yet another first for Westpark Fitness, we are now the first gym in Ireland to introduce air purification and air disinfection to our changing rooms. We have now installed three Novaerus Protect devices each in both the ladies’ and gent’s changing rooms.

Why have we done this?

Research has highlighted that the changing areas in gyms have a higher risk profile from indoor air pollutants than the majority of other indoor environments. This highlights the high risk of cross contamination of airborne pathogens while people are exercising. This can be broken down into four main aspects in the changing room area:

Pathogen Transmission
Close quarters and shared surfaces in communal areas can increase the risk of spreading infections like Staph, MRSA and Athlete's Foot.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
VOCs can be a byproduct from disinfection and cleaning materials - as well as deodorants and personal care products - all of which can lead to an increase in VOCs.

Humidity and Mould
Moisture from wet areas (such as sinks and showers) and the presence of wet clothing can all promote mould growth, posing respiratory risks.

Odours
Along with all of the above, the natural presence of sweat and body odours in these areas can accumulate which can in turn lead to unpleasant smells.

How do air purification systems help?
