What is Les Mills BodyPump?

A pre-choreographed class scientifically designed to give you results with fantastic music which is highly motivating; with the Les Mills BodyPump class at Westpark Fitness you can’t go wrong. It will bring you on a journey from which you’ll never look back. Everyone is in the class for one reason and one reason only and that is to get into the best shape of their lives and BodyPump is the class that will do this!

All your major muscles are worked using mainly compound (and some isolation-based exercises) including squats, presses and deadlifts. The focus is to strengthen, tone and shape your entire body by using light weights at high repetitions (known as the rep effect). This is the secret to developing lean athletic muscle. Les Mills BodyPump is a fantastic way to build up bone density which is especially important as we get older. Resistance training with weights is a great calorie burner too and an excellent way to build muscle. In this class you can burn up to 600 calories and more - the same calorie burn that our CicloZone (spinning) class also offers.

Who is it for?

Everyone! A beginner can do what we call 'Smart Start' - meaning in your first class you can do the first four tracks (warm up / squats / chest, back and all the big major muscles of the body) and if you feel that’s enough for you, you leave and the next time you come back you add on just one more track until you’re doing the full forty-five or sixty minute class. You can start on a light weight but it’s all about progression and as you get used to it you can challenge yourself on a heavier weight. In terms of additional benefits, BodyPump is a fantastic way to build up bone density and as muscles repair from the class workout, your body's metabolism is increased. This means that calories are burned at an increased rate long after you finish the class itself! Booking required – see the class times and dates and book your place all on the Westpark Fitness app.

BodyPump

frequently asked questions

All you need is comfortable workout clothes, supportive shoes, a drink bottle and a sweat towel. During the class you’ll use a weight bar, weight plates and a step. These will be supplied in the class.
BodyPump instructors provide options to suit everyone. It’s a good idea to start with really light weights or even just a bar. Start slowly with just one to two classes a week and build up from four or five tracks to a full class. You’ll find your fitness and strength improve over a number of sessions.
BodyPump will really challenge all of your major muscle groups so we recommend you do no more than two to three classes a week and make sure you have a day off in between. Add two to three cardio classes into the mix and you’ll shape and tone your body in no time!
